Whether you are passionate about hiking, a wine enthusiast, or simply a curious traveler in search of new experiences, a walk through the vineyards is an opportunity not to be missed during your stay in Alsace. Here are our tips to enjoy it to the fullest!

Choosing the Right Moment

Light plays a key role in how we perceive landscapes. Do not hesitate to take advantage of the soft morning light, the late afternoon glow, or even the golden reflections of the sunset. The most adventurous may even set out at sunrise for a truly unique experience.

The seasons also completely transform the vineyards:

  • Spring: the first buds appear, the vines take on a delicate green hue, and the air is fresh and fragrant – perfect for revitalizing walks.
  • Summer: lush foliage and growing grapes adorn the vines, gradually changing color depending on the grape variety. Ideal for longer walks, often combined with refreshing tastings.
  • Autumn: the vineyards blaze with golden yellows, copper oranges, and deep reds. Harvest time brings a festive atmosphere to the villages – perhaps the most spectacular season of the year!
  • Winter: sometimes covered in frost or snow, the vineyards take on a magical, almost mystical character. The villages often sparkle with Christmas decorations, adding a special charm to your strolls.

Following the Marked Trails

The Alsatian vineyards are crossed by numerous marked trails, easy to follow and enhanced with explanatory signs. They provide valuable insights into grape varieties, wine history, and local traditions.

For example: the “Perles du Vignoble” Grands Crus trail (crossing Beblenheim, Bennwihr, Hunawihr, Mittelwihr, Riquewihr, and Zellenberg) or the “Géovino” trails (9 marked routes in the Ribeauvillé–Riquewihr region to better understand the link between terroir and wine).

Preparing Properly

Before setting out, make sure you are well equipped:

  • Comfortable shoes: paths are accessible but can be rocky or steep.
  • Water, hat, and sunscreen: the hillsides are sunny, so some protection is essential.
  • A small snack: nothing better than a gourmet pause with a local specialty or fresh fruit.

Stopping at a Wine Estate

A vineyard walk is also an opportunity to meet winegrowers in the charming villages along the route. Many welcome visitors for tastings or cellar tours, offering a deeper understanding of Ribeauvillé’s renowned wines.

After your walk, there is nothing better than relaxing in one of our spa hotels in Ribeauvillé: Hôtel de la Tour (in the town center) or Hôtel le Ménestrel (close to the vineyards). Enjoy a soothing massage, a jacuzzi session, or the tranquility of our hammam/sauna. Feel free to contact us for more information or book your stay directly on our website!
