Highline: the discipline that thrills fans of extreme sensations
The principle is simple: participants move along a slackline (an elastic webbing) stretched high above the ground, sometimes tens or even hundreds of metres up. This discipline demands extreme concentration, perfect balance and considerable mental strength.
Although practitioners are always secured with appropriate safety equipment, the challenge remains impressive. For spectators, every step is a blend of grace, tension and emotion. Watching these modern tightrope walkers move above the void offers a spectacle that is both fascinating and thrilling.
2026: Heading towards a new record in Alsace?
The challenge is clear: to beat the 860 m fall-free crossing record set in 2022, by installing a slackline of approximately 1,070 m between Girsberg Castle and the Bilstein massif.
The attempts will take place from 9 to 12 July 2026. From the various observation points around the castles, the public will be able to follow the athletes' performances and share in the emotion of this extraordinary event. Infographics will also be provided to help you better understand the discipline and what is at stake in the record attempt.
Highline-related events during the first half of July
Several events will be organised in Ribeauvillé alongside this record attempt:
- 8 to 19 July 2026: photo exhibition “Sky Walkers” at the Chapelle Sainte Catherine (10 a.m.–6 p.m.).
